Image is used to display explanatory illustrations, promotional material, and many other things.

The alt attribute is mandatory; an alternate text has to be provided for screen readers, but is also shown in case the image does not load. However, it may be set to an empty string if the image is purely ornamental.

Rules For Developers

There are benefits of using this component and not the HTML img element directly:
- it already comes with smart defaults,
- it will eventually be more useful inside a variety of parent containers,
- it becomes overall more future-proof.
