Inclusive Personas

Open in Figma

Creating inclusive personas helps us to develop products and services that meet the different needs of all users and ensure accessibility and empathy. That is why we have placed great emphasis on creating inclusive personas that reflect different points of view. These fictional personas have different backgrounds, abilities and needs, including those of people with disabilities. They help our team to understand abstract ideas and turn them into practical insights. This approach allows us to develop more accessible and inclusive products and services that meet the needs of everyone, especially those who are often overlooked.

Using these inclusive personas helps us to empathise with users who struggle with challenges such as mobility issues, visual and hearing impairments, language barriers, cognitive differences and social inequalities. This empathy inspires us to develop more thoughtful and accessible solutions.

What are these Personas based on?

The personas come from various sources and projects, including our previous research (such as George Junior User Tests), two interviews with visually impaired users and several other research initiatives.

We, the design chapers at George Labs, combined insights from competitor research, EBÖ personas, general group research statistics and reports from other departments. In addition, we worked with Group CX to get direct insights from actual customers who belong to one of the persona groups from the George countries.

Barriers or impairments

Users can face various challenges due to barriers and impairments in different areas, such as physical, speech, visual, auditory, and cognitive. For example, mobility limitations are a type of physical barrier, while speech impairments can make communication difficult. Visual impairments range from partial sight to blindness, and auditory impairments affect hearing. Cognitive impairments can impact memory, attention, and problem-solving skills, creating more hurdles for users. By considering these barriers in our designs, we can create products and services that are accessible to everyone, regardless of their abilities.

How to use them?

Inclusive personas can be used throughout the design process to inform decision-making and guide design choices. Designers can reference inclusive personas during ideation, prototyping, and testing phases to ensure that accessibility considerations are integrated into every stage of development. By keeping inclusive personas at the forefront of the design process, designers can create more inclusive and accessible products and services that better meet the needs of all users.

Where to find them?

Inclusive personas are available in a variety of resources, such as design toolkits, online repositories, and design collaboration platforms. For instance, you can find inclusive personas in Figma file. These personas are valuable tools for designers aiming to create more inclusive and accessible designs, offering insights into the diverse needs and experiences of users with disabilities.
